Dissension in Nagari TDP Emerges as Educationalist Ashok Raju Resigns

Educationalist and TDP leader K. Ashok Raju announced his resignation from the primary membership of the party during a media conference in Tirupati. This decision came shortly after the TDP announced Gali Bhanuprakash, son of former Minister Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, as its candidate for the Nagari Assembly constituency.

Nagari, a constituency bordering Tamil Nadu and currently represented by Minister for Tourism and Culture R. K. Roja, is known for its multi-cornered contests among various caste groups. Despite the expectation of anti-incumbency, the split within the TDP ranks due to Raju’s resignation is seen as a potential advantage.

Raju, who has been associated with the Siddhartha group of educational institutions for over two decades, expressed his disappointment with the TDP leadership for denying him a ticket for the third time. He cited instances where he was asked to step aside for other candidates, including Bhanuprakash, to capture certain voter sentiments.

Nagari constituency has a diverse voter base comprising Reddy, Kamma, Mudaliyar, Kshatriya, and Scheduled Caste communities. Raju’s resignation is seen as a manifestation of the Kshatriya community’s dissatisfaction with the TDP leadership.

Meanwhile, Bhanuprakash faces opposition within his own family, with his mother and younger brother openly urging TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu not to field him as a candidate. Despite these challenges, Bhanuprakash remains the TDP’s chosen candidate for the constituency.
